Guest Cottage

Cotswolds

About the Project

We breathed new life into a tumbling down former cow shed to create this cosy guest cottage in The Cotswolds. Whilst much of the original building had fallen down and required substantial reconstruction, all of the Cotswold stone was in perfect condition and used to faithfully rebuild the walls. Not only saving money, rebuilding with original stone guarantees a wonderful aged look. We chose to leave the stone walls visible on internal walls wherever possible, giving the interior character, warmth and a connection to the building’s heritage. The remit for the cottage was to create somewhere where people arrive and instantly feel at home. A palette of natural materials with warm tones and different textures creates a sense of comfort, including limestone flagstones, linen and velvet upholstery, lime paint, seagrass wallpaper and jute flooring. We are so happy with the kitchen in the cottage. Designed by ourselves and built by local craftsmen with oak from the Blenheim estate. The combination of vintage, antique and contemporary furniture also adds to the layers of interest in the cottage. It is bolthole where people love to arrive but are less keen to leave!
